Momentum Smooth Jazz : Theodore T. Foster

Instruments Played: Bass, Drums

At the age of 10, Theo knew he wanted to entertain. He would always listen to the music coming from the family’s radio or his dad’s 8-track tapes. When he received a Phonograph (That’s what they were called back then) for Christmas, he would listen to the music and act out all the instruments. At age 13 my dad found and warped pair of drum sticks at his job and brought them home and gave them to me. After many days of banging on boxes and books my parents bought me a drum set. I played drums for six years. I played in a number of popular bands in the New York City area. During that time the bass became more and more popular with me. I was really impressed with the playing and singing of Larry Graham and being out front in a band. One day I went to see The Brothers Johnson at Carnegie Hall. I was so amazed at the bass playing of Louis Johnson that the next day I traded my drums for a down payment on a bass. I was playing drums for a band at the time. A month later my mom bought the Bass guitar for me.

Some years later the guitar player from my other band and I went on to form a group named “Forsyme”. We played in clubs in New York City and Connecticut. We were the first group to win My High Schools First Battle of the Bands contest. The judges were from popular Disco radio stations in the area. They did a front-page story on my playing style and me.

Since that time I have played with a number of popular bands. I became interested in Production so I went to school for engineering. I completed the course and graduated Top of my class. I also became very involved with the record business through a friend who was a Record Company Exec. I learned a lot about the Business from him. In 1990 I started my own group and we became very popular. We opened for recording acts, toured the East Coast and performed in Japan twice. I was the Manager, Producer, Stage Manager, Engineer, Musical Director and Bass Player for my group. Because of my many talents and strong Bass Playing I was asked to put together Backup bands for other singers, Managers and Club/Concert Promoters with whom I worked with very closely.

For “Teddybear On Bass”, the future is to produce my own CD and do some production for other people. Continue to better myself as a Musician and a businessman.

I give thanks to GOD for anointing me with these talents!!!!
Special thanks to my wife and children for their support!!!!
